2009 - Chapter "L" A to Z Tour

Is there a town, country, or county that you know of that begins with the letter "X"? If so, you already have a leg up in this annual friendly competition of the alphabet chasers, where points for the 24th letter are hard to come by.  The object here is to provide motivation to ride to new or out-of-the-way places.

Here's how it works:
Keep a camera and a copy of a current issue of Wing World magazine with your bike.  You can earn points by submitting photographs of you and your Wing/motorcycle in front of official signs while holding a current copy of the magazine.  The idea is to visit cities and counties beginning with as many different letters of the alphabet and as many states and countries as possible.  There are other ways to earn points too, such as by visiting national parks and forests, etc.

At the end of the riding year, we reward the highest point totals with great prizes and 15 minutes of fame (top winners are listed in the Chapter newsletter and features on our Web site).

THE RULES:
1. Entries must be from a GWRRA Chapter “L” member and must be for one person only.  Each person must submit their own photos.  A separate photo must be submitted for each place.

THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE SUBMITTED PHOTOS:

Your Gold Wing motorcycle or other make.

The cover of a 2009 edition of Wing World or photo with date stamp

You or your co-rider in the photos

An "official sign" as described below:

2. An "Official Sign" is:

A government building WITH the name of the city/village/town/county/state/territory or country on it, such as a post office, police station, firehouse, or school.

A sign posted by a government body, which lies WITHIN the boundaries of the place it identifies; i.e. "Welcome to Atascadero," "Thanks for visiting Los Osos."  (Mileage markers or directional signs are not allowed.)

An authorized Honda dealership may be used to designate a city.  However, the first letter of the actual city where the dealer is located is the letter for which you will be credited. (For example: a photo of "Lompoc Honda" would give you credit for the letter "L" because that dealership is located in Lompoc.)  Photos in front of Honda dealers must have the name of the dealership in the photo.

3. The name of the dealership, village, city, town, state, country, etc. MUST appear legibly on the "official sign" in the photo to receive points.  Any illegible photos will not receive points.

4. You must ride your Wing/motorcycle.  Photos with motorcycles on trailers are not eligible.  No posers or trailer queens!

5. Photos must qualify as outlined above to be eligible for points.

Points are awarded as follows:
One point for each city, village, town, township, or municipality sign from A-Z.  Limit one point per letter (maximum of 26 points).

One point for each country sign from A-Z.  The word country (or abbreviation equivalent) MUST appear on the sign as well as the name. (maximum of 26 points).

One point for each state.  The name of the state (or abbreviation equivalent) MUST appear on the sign (Maximum of 50 points).

One point for each county.  The name of the county (or abbreviation equivalent) MUST appear on the sign.

One point for each National Forest sign. The name as well as "National Forest" MUST appear on the sign

One point for each U.S. National Park sign. The name as well as "National Park" MUST appear on the sign

One point for each State Park sign.  The name as well as "State Park" MUST appear on the sign

One extra bonus point for each photo that contains a Law Enforcement Officer. or other badge wearing official; i.e. Park Ranger.  The badge MUST be visible.  You or your co-rider cannot be wearing the badge... but, wear their hat if you can get away with it.

"Mooning" the photographer and other "obscene" gestures might get a lot of laughs...but, NO POINTS FOR YOU!

CD, ACD or Ride Coordinator will accept hard-copy pictures. In the event of a tie, the entrant with a picture of a place the greatest distance from SLO will be the winner.  Decision of the judges is final.

HAVE FUN AND RIDE SAFELY
